Session Capacity: Unlimited

In this hands-on solar cooking workshop, participants will dive into the fascinating world of harnessing the sun’s energy to prepare delicious food. Whether you’re a budding chef or simply curious about sustainable cooking methods, this 120-minute session promises an enlightening experience.

Workshop Outline:

Introduction (5 minutes):
Welcome and Overview: Greet participants and set the stage for the workshop.
Solar Cooking Basics: Explain the concept of solar cooking and its environmental benefits.

Building Pizza Box Solar Ovens (45 minutes):
Materials Provided: Distribute pizza boxes, aluminum foil, plastic wrap, black construction paper, and other necessary supplies.
Step-by-Step Construction: Guide participants through assembling their own solar ovens.
Design Tips: Share tips on maximizing heat absorption and retention.

Sun-Powered Cooking (40 minutes):
Outdoor Exploration: Move to an open area with ample sunlight.
Cooking Techniques: Discuss how to position the pizza box ovens for optimal sun exposure.
Cooking Demo: Demonstrate cooking a simple treat (mini pizza) using the solar ovens.

Treat Time (25 minutes):
Enjoy the Fruits of Your Labor: Participants retrieve their solar-cooked treats.
Group Sharing: Gather everyone to taste their creations and share their experiences.
Reflections: Discuss the impact of solar cooking on energy consumption and the environment.

Conclusion (5 minutes):
Q&A and Tips: Address any remaining questions and offer additional solar cooking tips.

Takeaway: Participants leave with their pizza box solar ovens and newfound knowledge.
