Heyyyyy Helpers and Healers!

You are pure MAGIC and you know it- but how often do you get to feel the full force of your own dopeness for yourself? How often do you allow yourself to benefit from your unique gifts and nurture your own well-being?

In this collaborative, affinity space for Black and Brown Healers and Helpers, we will explore what it means to bask in the glory of our own gifts and share said gifts from an overflow of goodness versus serving from depletion.   We will take time to envision the highest expression of your healing work and discuss tools to address any barriers that are keeping you from reaching that greater vision.

You ready?  Let’s grow!

Scrumpdillyicious Snackable Snacks! Nom Nom Nom...

In this fun culinary workshop, participants see that everyday household ingredients can quickly transform into easy, satisfying snacks. Whether in a rut or having a food block, this workshop will help the creative juices flow and the inner scientist and/or chef come alive. I will demonstrate how to make the snacks. Each participant can sample the three different snacks that will be made. With words of encouragement and modeling, every participant will be given recipes and feel empowered to make a snack independently.

Worshop Outline:
Introduction (3 min)
Welcome participants and ask - has anyone heard of the Food Network? Well, this is the Snack Network, and we are highlighting super yummy snacks with great ingredients, skill, and positive thinking. Go into a little detail about the ingredients, skills, and positive thinking.

1st snack – Ants on a Log: I will model how to make ants on a log (celery, sunbutter and raisins). Growth Mindset talk – “It isn’t easy presenting in front of an audience, but I am taking deep breaths, not rushing, and smiling to myself saying “you got this, you can do it” which helps me get through and boosts my confidence.”
I will make 2 more snacks:
- chicken salad bites (canned chicken, vegan mayo, lemon on a ritz cracker or cucumber medallion)
- black bean burrito roll-up (mashed black beans, salsa on a tortilla or cracker optional: seasoned with hot chips)

I thank everyone for their participation and for being here! I review the 3 snacks we made together. I have a volunteer pass out the recipes to everyone. I ask who feels confident enough to try a snack recipe on their own and maybe share it with someone. I say - “I believe in each of you to try something new or do something you are passionate about – you have what it takes. You got this! You can do hard things! I believe in you! Keep being awesome!”

Root to Rise: Grounding Yoga for Unity within Nature
Saturday August 17, 2024 7:45am - 8:45am PDT
Session Capacity: Unlimited

Join us for a rejuvenating 45-minute workshop that explores the grounding practice of yoga in harmony with the natural world. This session is designed to align your physical and spiritual presence with the earth’s energy, fostering a deep sense of connection and tranquility.

**Workshop Outline:**

**Introduction (5 minutes):**
- Welcome participants and introduce the concept of grounding through yoga.
- Brief discussion on the importance of connecting with nature for holistic well-being.

**Grounding Yoga Flow (30 minutes):**
- Begin with grounding into the body through breath, leading to basic grounding poses that everyone can follow, emphasizing stability and connection to the earth.
- Progress to a series of poses that enhance mindfulness and physical grounding, including Tree Pose, Mountain Pose, and seated stretches.
**Interactive Grounding Activity (5 minutes):**
- While still in flow of practice participants will be walked through a short mindfulness exercise, connecting the sensory experience of the surrounding nature with their yoga practice.
- Mindfulness of the natural elements around, like the feel of the grass, the sound of the wind, and the warmth of the sun, will be encouraged throughout.
**Wrap-up and Reflection (5 minutes):**
- Conclude with a short meditation, allowing participants to internalize their experience and set intentions, this is paired with sound bowls to allow the vibration of nature’s natural rhythm to be elevated with white quartz crystal bowls.
-Just before ending, movement is invited back into the body, stirring us back to this realm, bringing us to a space of reflection and gratitude.
- To wrap up we open the floor for participants to share their experiences and reflections on how the session impacted their sense of grounding.

**Materials and Setup:**
- Yoga mats for participants (encouraged to bring their own if possible, I do have 8 extras available).
- Portable speakers for soft, ambient music that complements the natural setting. Can omit if one is provided.
- Sound bowls for the meditation portion.
- 2.5 pH water (Hypochlorous acid/ non caustic form of bleach) to spray on mats before and after yoga to maintain cleanliness of shared mats, 3 bottles.
- Headset for proper voice projection, mine is currently not working and will not be available for this event. Would there be an option to have one provided?

By the end of this workshop, participants will not only feel more grounded and at peace but will also carry with them practical techniques to integrate grounding yoga practices into their daily lives. This session is perfect for anyone looking to deepen their connection with themselves and the natural world around them.

RESET: A Breathwork & Sound Bath Ceremony
Saturday August 17, 2024 9:00am - 10:30am PDT
Session Capacity: Unlimited

Ceremony Schedule (90 minutes)
Welcome, Introductions, Explain format (10 min)
Deep Breath Connection Practice (25 min)
Sound Bath Prep (5 min)
Sound Bath Journey with crystal bowls (20 min)
Somatic Stretch & Release (15 min)
Questions, Close, Farewell (15 min)

We’ll use our time in this workshop to connect with our breath and create space within. When we can connect with our breath we can enjoy the peace outside the hamster wheel of our thoughts.

We’ll open the session with a breath “warm up” and that will prepare us for a Breathwork ceremony. The Conscious Connected, or two part breath pattern we’ll use is a powerful way of breathing that can create a catalyst for transformation and deep healing.

Following our breathwork we’ll shift into a beautiful crystal bowl sound bath where your body can rest and integrate the work. Giving ourselves the opportunity to release what no longer serves us, recalibrate and begin anew is one of the best gifts we can give ourselves. I’d say if you’re looking for a reset, this space may be for you!

Suggested Items To Bring:
-Yoga mat/thick pad/blanket(s)
-Something to rest your head on (pillow, bolster, towel, article of clothing)
-Water/hydration
-Journal
-Sacred Items to charge on the altar (crystals, meaningful tokens, stones, etc)
-Eye mask, ear plugs, clothing layers (for sensory management)
-Sound baths do not involve water or getting wet

Session Capacity: 20

Attention attendees: Online registration does not guarantee session access. Please arrive at least 5 minutes before the session begins and check in with a volunteer to secure your spot. Thank you!

Welcome + Grounding breath (5 min):
- Rewilding is a homecoming. It is a space to witness ourselves as nature does and come into loving relationship with our bodies, this community, and the nature that surrounds us. It is a space to connect with the ancestors who stewarded this land before us and envision a place where our children will continue to learn and grow in community.
- As we move through these practices, keep in mind to listen to your body. There is no right or wrong way to engage in this space.
- Let's start with breaths together to pull ourselves out of our heads and ground into our bodies.

Introductions: (10 min):
- Share your name, prounouns, and something you are witnessing about your relationship to yourself, community, or nature in this moment

Movement + gentle breathwork + guided meditation (15 min)
- We begin a practice by centering in our bodies through movement and breath. Our bodies are the spaces that connect us to the present moment and allow us to experience life through our senses. When we are centered we have access to different ways of knowing and different kinds of truth beyond our logical minds.
- Open up the body through gentle stretching (made accessible
- Body scan: witness sensations, tensions, movement, lighteness in the body
- Belly breathing: Overview of how to do belly breathing (trauma informed = listen to your own body and know that there is not a "right" way that this looks), then breathe for 3 min
- Guided meditation: Somantic practice around height / width / depth: Height of our body is our connection to the earth and the cosmos. Width is our connection to others. Depth where we have come from and where we are going.

Conversation breakouts in small groups of 3-4, followed by a reflections in a large group.
Breakout 1: What brought you here today? Why is that important to you? (15 min)
Breakout 2: Where / when do you feel most connected to the Earth? What does it feel like? (15 min)
Breakout 3: What is an idea or feeling that you want to take away from Refuge Festival into your own community? (15 min)

End with a cleansing breaths together, return to the original intention, and allow a few minutes for journaling (5 min)

By the end of the experience, participants will leave with practical experience in grounding their bodies using their breath and deeper connections to other participants at the festival.

Forest Bathing and Nature Connection
Sunday August 18, 2024 8:00am - 10:00am PDT
Session Capacity: 15

Attention attendees: Online registration does not guarantee session access. Please arrive at least 5 minutes before the session begins and check in with a volunteer to secure your spot. Thank you!

Folks are invited to take some time to possibly slow down and connect with their senses and each other, in partnership with the natural world around us. A certified Forest Therapy Guide will provide invitations that may encourage mindfulness, playfulness, and exploration, as we discover how nature connection can be healing to the individual and the community!

- Gathering and introduction of Forest Therapy and Each other ~15 minutes total depending on group size. We will pick a gathering location and it will likely be 5 minutes of folks gathering and another 10 minutes for me to introduce myself and what forest therapy/forest bathing is and looks like, and to answer any initial questions or concern.

- Guided meditation/exploration of the senses ~25 minutes total. After walking a little bit or to our anchor point I will invite folks to be guided through their senses and the space. This can take about 15 minutes with 5-10 minutes of sharing

-First Partnership Invitation ~25 minutes total. I will invite folks through our first partnership invitation. This invitation differs depending on what the group, myself, and the natural world around us hold on that day and in that moment. Invitation is ~15 minutes, with 5-10 minutes of sharing.

-Second Partnership Invitation ~25 minutes total. I will invite folks through our first partnership invitation. This invitation differs depending on what the group, myself, and the natural world around us hold on that day and in that moment. Invitation is ~15 minutes, with 5-10 minutes of sharing.

-Tea Ceremony ~15-20 minutes total. To close out we will share in having tea and possibly some snacks as we share with each other whatever we are feeling/noticing in that moment or our take-away from the forest bath. Folks can stay as long as they want but the sharing of the tea and with each other should be no longer than 20 minutes.

Planting Seeds with ABC's
Sunday August 18, 2024 9:00am - 10:30am PDT
Session Capacity: 20

Attention attendees: Online registration does not guarantee session access. Please arrive at least 5 minutes before the session begins and check in with a volunteer to secure your spot. Thank you!

Spring and summer are a great time to plant seeds and watch them grow. In this workshop, Sunflower the Storyteller will ask children to help her tend an imaginary garden. In the garden they will plant their seeds of ABC’s, water them, and watch them grow into words while enjoying the natural world around them.
With a focus on literacy, this interactive workshop encourages imagination and makes reading accessible through singing, movement, storytelling, alphabet games and building words.

1) Introduction: Sunflower and children introduce themselves through nature improv game (10 minutes)
2) Prep for song: Children receive Animals/Insects/Plants nature signs, get into groups and act out the Animals/Insects/Plants that they are holding (5 minutes)
3) Song - Planting ABC's song is introduced and Animals/Insects/Plants introduced in item 2 are played out in the song. (music and movement) (4 minutes)
4) Group sings their ABCs together (2 minutes)
5) Group counts together 1-20 (depending on age) (3 minutes)
6) Planting Seeds - Sunflower leads the group in planting seeds in the ground that grow into ABC's. Sharing, and improvisation around planting a garden, what plants need to grow, and then asking kids what letters they grew (10 minutes)
7) Group takes the letters they grew and work together to spell simple words about animals/plants/nature together. (5 minutes)
8) Group takes a nature walk together. On the walk they will be asked to observe, there will be quiet moments for listening, and also using senses such as touch and smell to remember their walk. (5-10 minutes)
9) The kids come back together. Sunflower shares a story of her experience and asks the kids to do the same. (7 minutes)
10) Song is replayed, ABC's reviewed, dancing and singing. End of session (5 min)

At the end of this workshop, participants will have learned/practiced/or reinforced their knowledge of ABC's, joining letters together to make words, writing (writing letters in the air), and reading words. From observing and acting out elements of nature (buzzing like a bee, waving like a flower, singing like a bird, wiggling like a worm, etc.), it is hoped they will grow in their appreciation (and or dispel some fear) of animals and insects that we share the world with. They will leave with enhanced storytelling skills (a key part of reading and writing) and learn the basics of gardening through the improv of planting seeds and growing ABC's.

You'll get hands-on with the tools -constructing your own firemaking set with natural materials. If you like to work with your hands, make smoke, and spark flames, come experience the thrill of primitive firemaking.

Agenda
Workshop Introduction 5 min
Group introduction 10 min
Part one 15-35 min
Break *if applicable*
Part two 10-30 min
Part three 10-30 min

Part One: Know yourself

What’s your relationship to self love like right now?
Self love is a journey. How we feel about ourselves in this exact moment is a culmination of our past experiences, thoughts and actions. Trauma from our childhoods, bad relationships and negative self-talk alter our view of yourself sometimes in an instant, sometimes over time.

Part Two: Protect yourself

This part of the workshop is about the inside of you. The most precious, innocent, and vulnerable version of yourself. The part of you that needed to be protected, the part of you that needed support and so on. What can you give to yourself now that you always needed? Outside of monetary objects what can you offer yourself as far as emotional and mental/psychological safety?

Part Three: Love yourself

Now it’s time to bring it all together and make your declaration of self love. How will you love yourself? What will that look like in your relationship with self and others? What small and big changes do you need to make to support your self love journey?

Learning Objectives
Introduction to challenging negative self talk
Exploring Affirmations and how to use them
Expanding relationship to self and relationship to others
Value of relationship healing
